Privacy Policy for TechUtils

TechUtils ("the App") is developed by Void Cat LLC. This Privacy Policy explains what data the App processes, where that data is stored, and when third parties receive data.

1. What TechUtils Collects and Processes

TechUtils does not require account creation and does not run a first-party backend server for user data.
Most processing is done on-device and most data stays locally stored on your device.

• Device and system information (model, Android version, security patch, battery and network status, storage stats).
• Battery metrics and history (for battery analytics and charts).
• App usage (for app battery attribution).
• Wi-Fi scan results (SSID/BSSID/signal/channel), LAN scan data, traceroute/diagnostics results.
• Media metadata and file hashes (for duplicate photo/video detection).
• Camera frames (for QR scanning, on-device).
• Microphone audio and speech recognition text (voice transcriber).
• User-entered data such as hostnames, URLs, notes, and converter values.
• Ad-related data and purchase state through Google SDKs.

2. Permissions and Why They Are Used

TechUtils requests permissions for feature-specific purposes:

• INTERNET, ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE: network tools, speed test, ads, billing, currency updates.
• ACCESS_WIFI_STATE, CHANGE_WIFI_STATE, NEARBY_WIFI_DEVICES, ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION, ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION: Wi-Fi analyzer/heatmap scanning.
• ACTIVITY_RECOGNITION: step tracking for Wi-Fi heatmap walk mapping.
• CAMERA: QR scanner.
• RECORD_AUDIO, MODIFY_AUDIO_SETTINGS: voice transcription and optional beep-muting behavior.
• READ_MEDIA_IMAGES, READ_MEDIA_VIDEO, READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE, WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE (legacy): duplicate media scan/delete tools.
• POST_NOTIFICATIONS, FOREGROUND_SERVICE, FOREGROUND_SERVICE_DATA_SYNC, REQUEST_IGNORE_BATTERY_OPTIMIZATIONS: persistent battery status feature.
• PACKAGE_USAGE_STATS: per-app battery usage estimation.
• com.android.vending.BILLING: in-app purchase ("Remove Ads").

Not all permissions are required for all features.

3. Third-Party Services and Data Sharing

TechUtils shares data with third parties only when related features are used:

• Google AdMob (ads): ad requests and ad delivery data.
• Google Play Billing: purchase and entitlement validation.
• Cloudflare endpoints: speed testing traffic.
• ipify / ipinfo: resolving public IP and ISP labels for speed test reporting.
• open.er-api.com: currency rate updates.
• OSM tile sources (via osmdroid): map tile loading in traceroute map view.
• Android speech recognition provider (Google/OEM): speech-to-text processing when voice transcription is used.
• User-selected external apps: if you share voice notes.

TechUtils does not sell your personal data.

4. Local Storage and Retention

TechUtils stores data locally on your device, including app preferences and feature history/caches (for example: battery history, heatmaps, speed test history, voice notes, duplicate-scan hash cache, and usage cache). Data remains until you delete it in-app (when available), clear app data, or uninstall the app.

If Android backup is enabled on your device, system backup behavior may apply.

5. Your Choices

• Deny or revoke permissions in Android Settings.
• Disable ads by purchasing "Remove Ads."
• Stop using optional features that process sensitive data (camera, microphone, usage access, media scan, Wi-Fi scanning).
• Clear app data or uninstall to remove locally stored data.

6. Children's Privacy

TechUtils is not directed to children under 13.

7. Security

We use reasonable technical measures within the app, but no method of storage/transmission is guaranteed 100% secure.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy when app features change. The updated effective date will be posted with the new version.
